Improve your chances of having a child

HOW TO GET PREGNANT?

Conceiving a child is not always easy, even if it is a natural process: how to increase your chances of getting pregnant?

WHEN AM I THE MOST FERTILE?

This is the question many women ask themselves when they fail to get pregnant in a natural way… Then, they think about how their bodies work, in order to increase the chances of getting pregnant without resorting to medical techniques. The first step is to determine the period when the couple is most fertile. Female fertility is considered to be at its peak for a period of 5 days, starting 4 days before the ovulation day and ending 1 day after. Female fertility is not the only factor: men can also increase their fertility. Sexual abstinence is generally recommended from 2 to 5 days before intercourse. The two future parents must therefore coordinate their efforts in order to maximize the chances of getting pregnant.

UNDERSTAND THE CYCLE, CALCULATE THE OVULATION DAY

Follicular phase. The menstrual cycle begins on the first day of menstruation: it is Day 1. From this point on, the uterus prepares to eventually receive a fertilized egg. This is the follicular phase. Under the influence of estrogen, the inner mucous membrane of the uterus, called the “endometrium”, thickens like a nest that is about to receive an egg. The follicular phase ends at Day 14. Ovulation and fertile period. Ovulation occurs on Day 14. The spermatozoon has a lifespan of 6 days: this explains the 5-day period during which the couple is most fertile. Sexual intercourse is more likely to result in pregnancy if it occurs between Day 10 and Day 15 of the menstrual cycle. The ovum has a lifespan of 12 to 24 hours and must therefore be fertilized during this period.

BASAL BODY TEMPERATURE CHART AND OVULATION

A woman’s cycle is not always regular, and each woman has a cycle of a different duration, but on average it is in the order of 28 days. Hence the basal body temperature chart method used to determine the ovulation period. During 3 consecutive menstrual cycles, the woman will have to take her temperature every morning when she wakes up. The day after ovulation, the body temperature increases by between 0.5 and 0.6°C (32,9 – 33,1 °F). This allows the woman to know when her ovulation is occurring during her own menstrual cycle. She calculates the fertility period (which corresponds to Day 10 – Day 15 of the theoretical period) in order to increase her chances of getting pregnant.

OVULATION TESTS

In order to confirm the ovulation period, you can use an ovulation test. It should be performed 2 to 4 days before the expected date of ovulation, and for 3 consecutive days. These are strips that react when they come into contact with the urine: if the hormone LH is detected, the test will be positive. This means that it is the best time to conceive, since the fertility of the woman is at its peak. These tests can be purchased in pharmacies, their cost ranges from 23 to 55€. So, in order to increase your fertility, you must first analyze your menstrual cycle.
